If you’re a regular guest of Vitek’s BBQ, you’ve no doubt noticed that we’ve raised prices on several menu items recently — especially your beloved Gut Pak — and we want you to know why.

The short of it is the rising cost of beef. Since last year, our wholesale price for brisket has increased about 50%. Without boring you with all the details, you may have heard in the news since late January or so that the U.S. cattle herd is at a 63-year low. That means there’s less beef on the market which translates into higher prices. We didn’t feel the impact of that until mid-February, but REALLY felt it in March.

We held off raising menu prices until it became impossible and still keep our business running. Even though our costs have gone up 50%, we haven’t increased the cost of our menu items by nearly that much. In other words, we’re taking much of the loss in the short-term to keep Vitek’s BBQ affordable for you.

We want you to know that we’re sensitive to these types of things (You don’t get to be in business for 100 years without knowing the pulse of the most important people in your restaurant business: your guests). And all indications are that we may see some price relief sometime this summer. When or if that happens, we’ll adjust our menu prices accordingly.
